STIR is short for Secure Telephone Identity Revisited while SHAKEN is an abbreviation of Secure Handling of Asserted information using tokens. STIR/SHAKEN is a telecommunication industry standard and is specially deployed for the service providers so they can cryptographically sign all of their calls in the header of the session initiation protocol (SIP).
STIR ensures that a call is authentic while SHAKEN is concerned with the management of calls in different ways. These standards protect consumers against Robocalling and telecommunication frauds.
